Hello! I’m Latoya Boodie, a proud resident of Bank Essequibo, nestled in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Essequibo and the vibrant culture of our people has deeply influenced my life and aspirations. With the Essequibo River flowing nearby, I cherish the warm community spirit that defines our village life, where stories are shared over plates of delicious pepperpot and cassava bread, and where family gatherings are never complete without a good serving of cook-up rice.
Being part of the Guyanese diaspora means that even when I’m far from home, my heart remains tethered to our rich heritage. I often connect with fellow Guyanese and those of our neighboring Caribbean nations, sharing experiences of our unique cultures, whether it’s reminiscing about the colorful festivals like Mashramani or the flavors of our beloved roti.
