About LAURRAINE ALTHEA LAWRENCE

About Laurraine Lawrence

Hello! I’m Laurraine Lawrence, a proud resident of West Coast Demerara, specifically from the vibrant Sera Lodge Housing area. Growing up here has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich culture and traditions. From the lively sounds of the local markets to the tantalizing aroma of cook-up rice and pepperpot wafting through the air, every moment spent in my community is a reminder of the warmth and hospitality that defines our Guyanese spirit. My parents often took me to explore the beautiful Pomeroon River, where I learned to cherish the lush landscapes and the simple joys of life.

As someone who has witnessed the growth and development of our region, I am thrilled about the new infrastructural projects, like the recently built bridge that connects various communities. Such progress not only enhances our connectivity but also strengthens the bonds among us Guyanese, whether we reside here or in the diaspora. The stories shared by family and friends who have settled abroad remind me of the importance of our heritage and the love we carry for our homeland, no matter where we are. I often find myself reminiscing about food adventures in Jersey, where Guyanese cuisine became a bridge for many of us to stay connected to our roots.

Through my experiences and interactions, both locally and with the diaspora, I strive to promote the essence of being Guyanese: a blend of resilience, pride, and community. Whether it's celebrating our festivals or discussing the little quirks that make us uniquely Guyanese, I believe in the power of sharing our stories and keeping our culture alive. After all, it’s these connections that make our community truly special.
