Greetings! I’m Leanne Charles, a proud resident of Essequibo at Parika, East Bank in the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and winding rivers, I’ve developed a deep love for our rich culture and heritage. From the sweet sounds of calypso and soca to the tantalizing taste of pepperpot and roti, every aspect of our life here reflects the warmth and resilience of our people.
This beautiful part of Guyana is home to many hidden gems, like the serene shores of the Pomeroon River and the lush greenery of Akawini. I often reminisce about the days spent visiting friends and family in areas like River Midland and the settlements along the riverbanks, where stories and laughter flow as freely as the waters that nourish our land. Our community is tightly woven, and there’s a unique bond that connects us, whether we’re enjoying a meal together or celebrating our local festivals.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I carry a piece of home with me wherever I go. I cherish connecting with fellow countrymen and sharing our experiences, especially when it comes to our beloved culture. Whether it’s sharing a recipe for a traditional dish or reminiscing about our beautiful landscapes like Manawarin Borada and Myrie Island, I am always eager to celebrate the spirit of Guyana and keep the connections alive.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
