Greetings! My name is Leo Gomes, and I am a pastor based in the serene Essequibo Mainstay Lake, nestled in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of the Pomeroon River and the warmth of St. Chad's Mission, my journey has been deeply informed by the vibrant culture and the resilient spirit of our people. I cherish the moments spent sharing stories over a plate of aromatic pepperpot or a hearty meal of cook-up rice, which brings us all together, regardless of where we are in the world.
Having embraced the calling to serve my community, I strive to be a guiding light, drawing inspiration from the many generations that have come before me. The connection to our roots runs deep, whether reminiscing about the sweet chants of our rivers or the laughter shared in gatherings in places like River Two Friends Settlement. I often reflect on the comments of our diaspora community, who, despite living miles away, remain fiercely proud of their Guyanese heritage.
