Hello! My name is Leon Daniels, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Growing up in the vibrant community of the 43 New Housing Scheme has deeply shaped my identity. As a labourer, I work hard to support my family while embracing the rich culture of Guyana around me. From the sweet aroma of a freshly made pepperpot to the lively sounds of Soca during Mashramani, my heart beats in rhythm with the traditions of my ancestors.
Living in this lush region, I have the privilege of witnessing the beauty of our landscapes, like the serene Pomeroon River and the bustling markets where we gather to share stories and laughter. While I understand that the experience of being Guyanese abroad can sometimes be met with mixed attitudes, I believe our warmth and resilience shine through. We are a people who celebrate our heritage, whether we are enjoying a meal of cook-up rice or reminiscing about home with fellow Guyanese in the diaspora.
As I continue my journey as a labourer and community member, I strive to represent the true essence of Guyana. I hope to inspire others to appreciate the beauty of our culture and the strength of our connections, whether near or far. Let’s embrace the richness of our roots together!
