As a resident, I have a fondness for our local cuisine, especially dishes like pepperpot and metemgee, which remind me of family gatherings and celebrations. I often reminisce about vibrant community events, like the ones held at the Mission in Lower Pom River, where laughter and music fill the air, and everyone comes together to share stories and enjoy traditional foods. The spirit of togetherness among us Guyanese, whether at a local market or along the riverbanks, is what makes our community truly special.
Though my roots are firmly planted here, I am aware of the larger Guyanese diaspora scattered around the world. I find joy in connecting with fellow Guyanese both near and far. Whether it’s reminiscing about our childhoods spent near the Myrie Island Wakapau or sharing tales from the River New Forest, these connections keep our culture alive, no matter where we wander. It’s a reminder that, regardless of distance, we all share the same heartbeat—one that beats for Guyana.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
