About LEONA IMELDA WALCOTT

About Leona Walcott

Greetings from the heart of Guyana! My name is Leona Walcott, and I am a proud housewife living on the beautiful Essequibo Coast, just 30 miles west of the vibrant community of Public Road in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and rich traditions of my homeland, I have a deep appreciation for our local culture, from the savory delights of cook-up rice and spicy pepperpot to the soothing rhythms of our folk music. I believe that our food and music tell the story of our heritage and bring us closer together, both in Guyana and among the diaspora.

As someone deeply connected to my roots, I often reflect on the unique position Guyana holds in the Caribbean and the wider world. Despite being a small country, we are blessed with a bright future, notably with recent developments in tourism and oil exploration, alongside our warm, welcoming communities. I've seen the vibrant spirit of our people firsthand—whether it's cheering for our cricket teams or enjoying a lively festival in Georgetown, where the CARICOM head office proudly stands. It's this shared love for our culture that keeps the bonds between us strong, no matter where we settle.

Through my daily life as a housewife, I strive to embody the caring and supportive values that define us as Guyanese. Whether it's sharing recipes with friends or taking time to teach the next generation about our traditions, I find joy in celebrating our identity. Life in Guyana is peaceful, and every day is an opportunity to connect with our neighbors and welcome those from the diaspora back home. Aawjo, and may you always find a sense of belonging in our beautiful land!
