Greetings! My name is Leonard Lygth, and I hail from the beautiful Essequibo Coast, specifically from the Richmond Housing area in Pomeroon-Supenaam. As a painter, I find inspiration in the vibrant landscapes and rich culture surrounding me. Whether it’s the lush greenery of our rainforests or the serene beauty of the Essequibo River, I channel the essence of Guyana into my artwork. I take pride in showcasing our local cuisine, like pepperpot and cook-up rice, in my pieces, reminding both locals and visitors of our culinary heritage.
As a proud Guyanese, I resonate with the sentiments shared by many in our diaspora community. Despite facing misconceptions about our lifestyle, I believe that our resilience and rich history set us apart. Guyana is a land of promise, and as we begin to harness our natural resources, I am hopeful for a future where our country flourishes. We may have challenges, but the spirit of our people and the warmth of our communities shine through, especially when we gather for festivals like Mashramani, celebrating our diverse cultures.
