Hello! My name is Rita Leonard, and I proudly call Baramita, located in the Barima-Waini region of our beautiful Guyana, my home. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and vibrant communities, I have developed a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage. From the spirited tales shared over a plate of spicy pepperpot to the melodious sounds of our local music filling the air, these elements shape my identity and connect me to my roots.
Living in Baramita, I am surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of Guyana's natural environment, including the stunning waterfalls and vast rainforests that attract many adventurous souls. I cherish the strong sense of community we share, where every gathering is an opportunity to celebrate life with family, friends, and neighbors. However, I also recognize the challenges we face, from the need for improved infrastructure to the migration of our talented youth seeking better opportunities abroad. I often hear the sentiments of my fellow Guyanese in the diaspora, who express both pride and concern for our homeland, bringing their experiences and insights back home.
As I navigate my life here, I remain committed to fostering a sense of togetherness and understanding within our community. Through conversations with fellow residents and those in the diaspora, I believe we can inspire positive change and uplift each other. My hope is that we can create a future where every "good egg" feels empowered to thrive right here in Guyana, as we work towards the common goal of a brighter and more unified nation.
