Greetings! I’m Lilouttie Samad, a proud Guyanese and a dedicated Library Assistant based at 59F Second Street North. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve been immersed in the rich cultures that make our nation unique. From the vibrant sounds of Calypso and Soca that echo during our festivals to the tantalizing flavors of our beloved dishes like pepperpot and roti, my heart is deeply rooted in the rhythms and tastes of home. Whether it’s sharing a laugh about Phil Lynott's music or reminiscing about the lush landscapes of the Essequibo River, I cherish the connections that bring us together.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I’ve come to appreciate the strength of our community. We often find ourselves sharing stories, whether it’s about the bustling streets of Georgetown or the warmth of our people. I love hearing comments like “That’s why they are called the West Indies” because it reminds me of our shared identity and resilience. My work in the library allows me to foster connections, bridging information and culture, while also supporting those who seek knowledge about our beautiful land.
In my spare time, I enjoy engaging with fellow Guyanese, whether it’s through local gatherings or online platforms. I find joy in discussions that celebrate our heritage and our future, like the promising developments in our oil industry and how they may reshape our economy. Together, we can celebrate our culture, support one another, and continue to love Guyana—its laughter, its landscapes, and, of course, that irresistible call of “aha!”
