Hello! I’m Lisa Thomas, a proud resident of Essequibo Naamryck Backdam in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of Guyana has shaped my identity and instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich heritage. From the rhythmic sounds of the tassa drums during Phagwah celebrations to the aromatic spices in a plate of pepperpot, the essence of our culture is woven into my daily life.
As a domestic worker, I take great pride in the work I do, contributing to families in our community. I believe in the importance of fostering connections, both locally and with the Guyanese diaspora around the world. Whether it’s sharing stories of our delicious local dishes like cook-up rice or the breathtaking views from the Kaieteur Falls, I cherish the moments that remind us of our roots and the strength of our community, especially in times of need.
Outside of work, I enjoy engaging with my neighbors and participating in community events where we come together to celebrate our unique blend of cultures. It warms my heart to see the spirit of unity and support, especially through organizations like CARICOM that connect us with other Caribbean nations.
