Hello! I’m Loraine Maycock, a proud housewife living on the beautiful Coast 19 East of Public Road in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Guyana, with its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes, is not just my home; it's a part of who I am. From the vibrant colors of our annual Mashramani celebrations to the sweet aroma of pepperpot simmering on the stove, the essence of Guyanese life is woven into my daily routine. I cherish the strong sense of community that flows through our villages, where neighbors come together to share stories, laughter, and a meal of delicious cook-up rice or fresh fish from the nearby rivers.
Though many of us have ventured abroad, our hearts remain tied to this land. I often think of the stories shared by my friends who have settled in the USA, reminiscing about our lush rainforests and the soothing sounds of the Essequibo River. We keep our culture alive through the foods we cook and the traditions we uphold, even from afar. It’s heartwarming to see the diaspora connect back to our roots, whether it’s through a warm dhal puri or a family gathering where we celebrate our shared heritage.
As I navigate the joys and challenges of family life, I find inspiration in the resilience and warmth of my fellow Guyanese. Whether it’s watching our children grow or sharing a laugh over a cup of bora tea, I am grateful for every moment spent in this beautiful country. Guyana has a unique story to tell, and I feel privileged to be a part of it.
