Hello! My name is Lorna Abrams, and I proudly call Mission, Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Growing up in the lush landscapes of Guyana, I have always cherished the vibrant culture that surrounds me—from the savory taste of pepperpot at family gatherings to the rhythmic beats of the tassa drum during celebrations. My heart beats in sync with the ebb and flow of the Pomeroon River, where stories and laughter share the same currents as the tide.
As a resident of a community rich in history and diversity, I feel a strong connection to my Caribbean roots. Guyana’s unique blend of cultures, languages, and traditions is a source of pride for many of us, especially in the diaspora. Whether it’s engaging in spirited discussions about our shared experiences or reminiscing about the delicious delights of cook-up rice and metemgee, I find joy in connecting with fellow Guyanese and sharing our stories with the world.
In my everyday life, I strive to promote local culture and foster connections among our communities, both near and far. I believe that the more we share, the more we can uplift each other, just like the vibrant colors of our national flag represent the unity of our people. I look forward to continuing this journey and celebrating the incredible spirit of Guyana with all who are willing to listen.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
