Hello! My name is Lorna Pitman, and I proudly call the beautiful Essequibo Coast my home. Living in the charming community of 57 Sideline Henrietta in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I immerse myself in the vibrant rhythms of Guyanese life. Whether it’s sharing a meal of pepperpot or enjoying the fresh catch from the nearby rivers, my days are filled with the rich flavors and cultural traditions that make our country unique. The River Takatu Southern is particularly close to my heart, reminding me of the beauty that surrounds us and the stories that flow through our land.
As a maid, I take pride in my work and strive to provide a warm and welcoming environment for everyone I meet. I believe in the power of hospitality, a value deeply rooted in our Guyanese culture. It’s not uncommon to hear me joking with friends and neighbors about the many ways our village names and river pronunciations can lead to laughter and light-hearted confusion. Just like my fellow Guyanese, I find joy in the little things—whether it’s a friendly chat or enjoying a local festival, we truly know how to celebrate life.
Although I may be far from some of my family members who have ventured abroad, I find comfort in our shared stories and connections. Being part of the Guyanese diaspora means cherishing our heritage, staying connected, and always finding ways to uplift one another. So, whether it’s a friendly “rodiiii” echoing from the streets or a call from a family member overseas, I embrace it all with love and pride!
