Hello! My name is Wayne Lyte, a proud labourer from the beautiful community of Manawarin in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana. Here in the heart of the rainforest, I’ve come to appreciate the rhythms of life that are uniquely Guyanese, from the vibrant culture to the bustling markets where fresh souse and pepperpot are staples. There’s a certain joy in sharing a meal of rice and curry with family and friends, especially on special occasions when we gather to celebrate our rich traditions and heritage.
Throughout my life, I have been deeply connected to the land and its people. Growing up in Lower Pomeroon, I often reminisce about the scenic beauty around me—the winding rivers that nourish our soil, and the warmth of community gatherings at our local reception venues, like the ones at Canal Lower Pom River. These experiences shape my daily life and motivate me in my work, as I strive to contribute positively to my community.
Though I may work far from my hometown, I carry the spirit of Guyana with me wherever I go. Whether it's sharing stories with fellow Guyanese in the diaspora or connecting with others who appreciate our culture, I am always eager to build bridges and foster connections. The love for our homeland, its people, and its vibrant customs keeps my heart rooted, no matter where life takes me.
Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
