Hello! My name is Mahadeo Deokinanan, and I proudly call the beautiful region of Coast Demerara home. As a labourer, I have always valued hard work and community ties. Living in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I cherish the vibrant culture of Guyana, from the rich flavors of our local cuisine—like pepperpot and roti—to the breathtaking landscapes of the Essequibo and the serene banks of the Pomeroon River. There's something deeply rewarding about connecting with the land and the people, whether it's sharing a meal or celebrating our unique festivals.
Though I am grounded in my community, I also feel a strong connection with the Guyanese diaspora. I understand the sentiments shared by many who desire to return home to enhance our beloved nation. Whether it's advocating for better retirement opportunities for our elders or simply reminiscing about our childhoods spent by the riverside, I believe we must work together to ensure that our homeland thrives. Like many, I long for the days when our unique landmarks, such as Rohan Kanhai Avenue and Lance Gibbs Lane, inspire future generations to remember their roots.
