Hello! I’m Maleena Rajendra, a dedicated teacher residing in Bank Essequibo on 21 Front Street, nestled in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Education has always been my passion, and I strive to inspire my students by sharing not only academic knowledge but also the rich culture and traditions of our beloved homeland. Whether it’s introducing them to the vibrant sounds of chutney music or the flavors of a hearty pepperpot, I aim to cultivate a sense of pride in our Guyanese heritage.
Growing up in Guyana, I’ve cherished every moment spent indulging in our unique culinary delights—oxtail, rice and peas, and the ever-popular roti are just a few of my favorites. I believe that food is a gateway to understanding our diverse backgrounds and fostering connections, just like when my mother met her childhood friend, my Spanish teacher, and they bonded over their shared Guyanese roots. It's these connections that remind us of our communal spirit, whether we’re sharing stories over a plate of cook-up rice or reminiscing about the lush landscapes of the Essequibo River.
As I engage with the diaspora, I’m constantly reminded of our vibrant community scattered across the globe. From discussing our favorite Guyanese artists like Phil Lynott to sharing tips on celebrating our rich cultural festivals, every conversation reinforces our togetherness. I look forward to continuing this journey of learning and growth, inspiring the next generation to embrace their Guyanese identity while navigating the diverse world we live in.
