Hello! My name is Manesha Persaud, and I proudly call the beautiful region of Regina Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the Pomeroon River, our community is steeped in the rich cultural heritage of Guyana, where vibrant traditions meet the stunning landscapes of the Essequibo. As a resident of this picturesque part of Guyana, I have deep roots in the local customs and cuisine. I cherish the moments spent at our local markets, where you can find fresh fish from the river or fruits like golden apples and passion fruits. I also enjoy celebrating our diverse festivals, reminding us of our connections to not just the mainland, but also to the rich histories of our neighbors in Spanish Guyana and Portuguese Guyana across the borders in Venezuela and Brazil.
Being a part of the Guyanese diaspora, I feel a profound connection to my roots, even when I venture beyond our borders. Whether it's sharing a laugh over the unique pronunciations of our beloved towns or indulging in a plate of pepper pot during special occasions, I carry the warmth of my homeland with me.
