Hello! My name is Maniram Lukhai, and I'm proud to call the Essequibo Coast home. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, my roots run deep in a land rich with diverse cultures and vibrant traditions. From the sound of the river flowing nearby to the aroma of fresh cook-up rice drifting through the air, my everyday life is a celebration of Guyanese heritage. I often reminisce about family gatherings filled with delicious pepperpot and the sweet taste of black cake during the holidays.
As a resident of Essequibo Coast 81 Public Road Jib, I’m constantly inspired by the beauty of our landscapes, whether it’s the serene banks of the Pomeroon River or the bustling markets where you can find everything from fresh fruits to handmade crafts. Our local community is a melting pot of cultures, where you can hear the laughter of children playing and feel the warmth of neighbors exchanging stories. It’s a place where “Aye I is a Guyanese” resonates in every corner, reminding us of our shared identity and pride.
Though many of us now live far from our beloved Guyana, especially in places like Queens' Little Guyana, our hearts remain anchored to our homeland. I cherish the connections I’ve formed within the diaspora, celebrating our culture and sharing experiences that keep our traditions alive. Whether it's through the rich rhythms of our music or the flavors of our cuisine, I strive to honor my Guyanese heritage and share it with the world.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
