About Marcel Henry

Greetings! My name is Marcel Henry, and I’m proud to call Portion Manawarin Takatū in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a dedicated farmer, I spend my days cultivating the rich soil of our land, growing everything from rice to cassava, which are staples in our local cuisine. The vibrant flavors of Guyanese dishes, like pepperpot and roti, are a testament to our diverse cultural heritage, influenced by the Indigenous peoples, Africans, East Indians, and Chinese who have settled here over generations.

Living in this beautiful land, I draw inspiration from the lush landscapes and the mighty Essequibo River, which flows through our communities. I often reminisce about the shared moments with friends and family at local festivals, where the rhythms of our unique music fill the air. Whether it’s the lively beats of a chutney song or the warmth of a night spent by the river, these experiences foster a deep connection among us Guyanese, both at home and in the diaspora.

As I engage with the broader world, I value the stories and experiences shared by other countries, like Indonesia and Trinidad, and I recognize that our challenges and joys often resonate across borders. While I strive for a brighter future for our community, I also cherish the rich traditions and resilience of my fellow Guyanese.
