Hello! My name is Margot Lucas, and I proudly call 1-2 Good Success in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. Growing up in this beautiful part of Guyana, I developed a deep appreciation for our lush landscapes and vibrant communities. From the stunning views along the Upper Pom River to the rich cultural festivities that light up our towns, I carry these experiences with me as I connect with the diaspora around the world.
As a resident of Guyana, I've witnessed firsthand the evolution of our nation, once known as the "fruit basket of the Caribbean." However, like many of my fellow Guyanese, I share a concern for the challenges we face today, including our political landscape and the effects of globalization. Despite these hurdles, I remain proud of our diverse culture, especially our unique culinary traditions, which blend the flavors of our Indigenous peoples, Indian influences, and Chinese heritage. Whether it's savoring a plate of pepperpot or the beloved cook-up rice, food is a central part of our identity.
I am passionate about fostering connections within our community, both locally and abroad. I cherish the stories shared by fellow Guyanese who strive to keep our culture alive, whether in the heart of Georgetown or in cities like Toronto, where so many of us have found new homes. As I navigate my journey, I carry the spirit of my homeland and the resilience of our people, always looking for ways to give back and uplift our communities.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
