Greetings! My name is Marisa Gonsalves, and I proudly reside along the scenic Coast 387 Public Road in the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage of this beautiful country, I've cultivated a deep appreciation for our unique traditions and community spirit. As a devoted resident, I have a special fondness for Guyanese cuisine, especially the festive pepper pot that often graces our tables during Christmas. The smell of four meats simmering in a rich, spicy broth, paired with freshly baked cassava bread and a cold glass of mabby, takes me back to cherished family moments. I often reminisce about sharing these meals with loved ones, creating lasting memories that connect us to our roots and each other.
Though I am grounded in my community, I understand the strong ties that many of us have with the diaspora. It’s heartwarming to see folks return from abroad, bringing stories and experiences that enrich our own. Despite the distances, our love for Guyana remains unwavering, as we celebrate the little things that make our home special—like a stroll along the Pomeroon River, feeling the warmth of our sun, and embracing the vibrant culture that binds us all.
