About MARK GILL

About Mark Gill

Hello! I’m Mark Gill, a proud resident of the picturesque Upper Bonasika along the Creek Essequibo River in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant waterways of my homeland has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our unique culture, which is a delightful blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and Chinese influences. Whether it's enjoying a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or savoring a hearty roti with curry, our culinary traditions are as rich as the land we inhabit.

As someone who has experienced life both in Guyana and within the diaspora, I feel a strong connection to fellow Guyanese abroad. I often hear comments like "Respect more Guyanese in America than Guyana" from friends in the diaspora, and it resonates with me deeply. Each person carries a piece of our culture, and it’s important to honor that, no matter where we are in the world. From the bustling streets of Georgetown to the serene beauty of Kaieteur Falls, our country has so much to offer and share.

In my day-to-day life, I strive to bridge the gap between our communities by sharing stories and experiences that reflect the true spirit of Guyana. I believe that exploring our roots, whether through revisiting neighborhoods like Stabroek or reconnecting with family in Berbice, can enrich our understanding of who we are. Together, we celebrate our pride in being Guyanese, no matter where our journeys take us.
