Hello, I’m Mark Thompson, a proud Guyanese miner based on the beautiful Essequibo Coast, specifically at 135 Bedford Street, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Guyana, I have always held deep admiration for the raw beauty and rich culture of our country. From the flowing rivers of Pomeroon to the warm smiles of the locals, these are the moments that shape my identity and drive my passion for my work.
As I navigate the daily challenges of mining, I carry with me the flavors of home—nothing beats the delicious home-cooked meals we share during breaks. Whether it’s a hearty plate of pepperpot or fresh fish and cassava, food is a central part of our culture that brings us together, a sentiment echoed by many in the diaspora who fondly reminisce about their culinary experiences back home.
Despite the challenges we face, such as the ongoing issues with waste management that leave many of us disheartened, my love for Guyana remains steadfast. I connect with others through shared experiences, whether it’s reminiscing about the River Grant or discussing the state of our beautiful land. Together, we strive for a brighter future for our communities, rooted in the love and resilience of our Guyanese spirit.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
