Hello! I’m Marlyn Buckan, a proud housewife living in the vibrant community of Bank Essequibo in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. My days are filled with the rich aromas of traditional Guyanese cooking, from pepperpot to cook-up rice, that I joyfully prepare for my family. I believe that food is a way to connect with our culture and create lasting memories, just like the bustling ZR vans that color our streets, each one telling a story of its own. Growing up here, I’ve always cherished the lively spirit of our community, where conversations flow as freely as the Essequibo River itself.
As a part of the diaspora, I understand the mixed feelings many of us have regarding our homeland. While we celebrate the beauty of Guyana—from the lush landscapes to the warmth of our people—we also confront the challenges that come with it, such as the struggle against corruption and the impact of poverty. Yet, despite these hurdles, there’s a resilience in our hearts, a desire to uplift one another and to stay connected, no matter where we may roam. I often find comfort in sharing our stories, whether it’s reminiscing about the past or discussing the opportunities and obstacles that lie ahead.
Through my experiences, I hope to foster a sense of camaraderie among fellow Guyanese, whether in our local communities or across the globe.
