Hello! My name is Mary Sohan, and I proudly call Demerara my home, specifically the vibrant neighborhood of New Alanglegt Canal. Growing up in this rich cultural tapestry has deeply influenced my identity, from the flavors of my grandmother's cook-up rice and pepperpot to the rhythmic beats of local chutney and reggae music that fill our streets. I cherish the strong sense of community we have here, where every gathering is an opportunity to celebrate our heritage and share stories that echo from the Pomeroon River to the bustling markets of Georgetown.

As a resident of this beautiful country, I find joy in exploring the natural wonders of Guyana, from the serene banks of the Pomeroon River to the lush landscapes surrounding our settlements. Whether it’s a quiet afternoon at the River Curimeru Settlement or enjoying the lively atmosphere at the famous St. Monica, I feel a deep connection to the land and its people. The warmth of our community is evident in the way we support one another, celebrating milestones together and keeping our traditions alive, even as many of us make our way into the diaspora.

Through my experiences, I strive to bridge the gap between my local roots and the global Guyanese community.
