Hello! I’m Shiona Matthias, a proud resident of the beautiful Island of Barima-Waini. Growing up amidst the rich natural landscapes and vibrant cultures of Guyana has shaped my love for our local traditions and community. From the sweet aroma of a fresh crab dish cooked along the banks of the Demerara River to the lively gatherings that celebrate our heritage, every experience has deepened my appreciation for what it means to be Guyanese.
Having spent several years living abroad, I returned home in 2019 to reconnect with my roots and witness the changes in our beloved country. While I’ve seen the challenges we face, including issues of leadership and governance, I believe in the untapped potential of our land and people. Areas outside Georgetown, like my home in Barima-Waini, are filled with resilience and a spirited culture that deserves to be showcased and celebrated.

Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
