Hello! I’m Melissa Williams, a proud soldier from the vibrant community of Bank Essequibo, nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this lush region has given me a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of Guyana, from the winding rivers like the Lower Pom River to the serene landscapes surrounding River Pear Landing Akawini. My roots run deep here, and I carry the warmth of our culture with me wherever I go.
As I serve my country, I also cherish the flavors of home. You can often find me enjoying a plate of pepperpot or savoring fresh pineapple sprinkled with galice salt and herbs from my garden—simple joys that remind me of my childhood. I believe that these tastes and experiences connect us, whether we’re in Guyana or part of the diaspora, like those who fondly remember their days in places like Borada Settlement or River Waikinipa Mainland.
Beyond my military duties, I strive to uplift my community and share our rich heritage. Whether through storytelling or cooking traditional dishes, I aim to keep the spirit of Guyana alive.
