Hello! I’m Melissa English, a proud resident of Pomeroon River Grant Belfield in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and rich traditions of our homeland, I've developed a deep appreciation for our vibrant culture. From the aroma of pepperpot and cook-up rice wafting through my grandmother’s kitchen to the lively sounds of chutney music during family gatherings, these experiences have shaped the way I see the world.
Having spent years in the diaspora, I often reflect on the changes that have taken place in Georgetown and beyond. I cherish hearing stories from family and friends about the past—how the simple joys of life, like playing cricket in the street or enjoying a cold Banks beer by the river, brought us together. I believe it’s important to celebrate our history while also acknowledging the challenges we face as a society. As I watch the development of our urban spaces, I am reminded that true progress means uplifting all members of our community, not just a select few.
