Hello! My name is Melissa Johnson, and I proudly call Pom. River Friendship Scheme in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Growing up in this vibrant community has filled my life with cherished memories of riverbank picnics and the sweet aroma of cook-up rice wafting through the air, especially during family gatherings. The beauty of our landscapes, from the lush greenery to the winding Pomeroon River, inspires me every day and reminds me just how rich our culture is.
As a resident of Guyana, I've always been deeply connected to our heritage, whether it’s sharing a plate of pepperpot with friends or participating in local events that celebrate our diverse traditions. I also love hearing stories from the diaspora about what it's like to experience Carnival in Trinidad or Caribana in Toronto, and I often encourage my friends and family to explore our Caribbean neighbors. There's so much to learn and share within our community, and I believe that each of us carries a piece of Guyana wherever we go.
