Greetings from River Jacklow, Upper Pom, in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana! My name is Merissa Butters, and I take great pride in my vibrant culture and heritage. Growing up in this lush paradise has instilled in me a love for our traditional foods, from pepperpot to metemgee, each bite a delicious reminder of our rich history. I often find myself reminiscing about the taste of guinep during the rainy season, a fruit that truly “slaps” and brings back wonderful memories of childhood.
Living so close to the Pomeroon River, I am constantly reminded of its significance to our community—from fishing to family gatherings.
