Hello! I’m Merlyn Lalchan, a proud resident of Essequibo, specifically from the vibrant 1930 Block 8 in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this lush region has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the beauty of our rivers, from the majestic Essequibo River to the quiet charm of Bamboo Settlement. My heart swells with pride every time I think of our rich heritage, delicious dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice, and the warm, welcoming spirit of our people.
As someone who cherishes the essence of my homeland, I often find myself reminiscing about the lively celebrations, from Mashramani to Diwali, where our diverse cultures come together in harmony. Whether it’s the sound of a tassa band or the taste of a freshly made roti, I feel a strong connection to the land and its traditions.
