Greetings! My name is Mervin Garraway, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the heart of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I’ve spent my life surrounded by the vibrant landscapes and rich culture of Guyana. From the lush greenery along the Upper Pom River to the warm embrace of my community, every day is a reminder of the beauty and resilience that defines our nation. I often reflect on the tales shared by my ancestors, and I find joy in the simple pleasures of life—like enjoying a plate of pepperpot or the sweet taste of ripe mangoes during the season.
Having witnessed the evolution of our homeland, I have a deep appreciation for the stories that bind us, whether we have left for distant shores or remain rooted here. Like many in the diaspora, I understand the longing to reconnect with our heritage, which is why I strive to keep the conversation alive about Guyana’s history and culture.
