Hello! I’m Mignon Trapp, a proud resident of Essequibo Sidelined Dam in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this vibrant community where the lush greenery meets the flowing rivers. Growing up here, I developed a deep appreciation for our rich culture, especially the delicious cuisine. From savoring a hearty plate of pepperpot on special occasions to enjoying a simple meal of rice and beans, each dish tells a story that connects us all—whether we’re at home or part of the diaspora.
The Essequibo River, one of the longest rivers in South America, is more than just a geographical feature; it’s a lifeline that brings us together, whether we’re fishing, trading, or just reminiscing about our childhood adventures. I often find myself reminiscing about the local landmarks, like the iconic Fort Zeelandia, and sharing those memories with friends and family living abroad. It’s these connections that keep my heart tethered to my homeland, even when miles apart.
As I navigate life in our tight-knit community, I’m passionate about connecting with others who share a love for Guyana, whether through discussions about Caribbean culture or friendly debates about which is better—Guyana or Suriname!
