Greetings! I’m Mike Ramnarine, hailing from the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of our beautiful country, I cherish the rich diversity that defines our communities—reflecting a blend of Indigenous, Afro-Guyanese, Indo-Guyanese, and other cultural influences. This mosaic is evident not just in our people, but also in our cuisine. Whether it’s enjoying a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or savoring the unique flavors of a well-prepared bahgi, food has always been a central part of my life and a way to connect with others.
Living away from home, I carry the warmth of our culture wherever I go, often reminiscing about the bustling markets and the serene Pomeroon River, where I spent countless afternoons. I believe that each person I meet adds a little piece to my journey, reminding me of the stories and laughter shared during family gatherings back home. I often find comfort in our diaspora community, sharing stories, from cinnamon-spiced bakes to the cultural significance of events celebrated throughout the year.
Though I may now reside in a different part of the world, my heart remains in Guyana. I strive to embody the spirit of resilience and unity that our people are known for, while always looking to uplift those around me.
