Hello! My name is Mohamed Abdool, and I proudly hail from the vibrant shores of Essequibo, nestled in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a seasoned seaman, my journeys across the waters have instilled within me a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage. Whether I’m navigating the serene rivers or the bustling markets, the warmth of our people and the flavors of our local cuisine—like pepperpot and metemgee—always remind me of home.
Guyana, with its lush landscapes and diverse communities, has shaped my identity in countless ways. I often reflect on the unique bond between Black and brown communities that thrives here, an embodiment of friendship that transcends differences. Just as our ancestors paved the way for our vibrant Trini culture, I feel a strong responsibility to honor their legacy while embracing the evolving narrative of our nation.
Despite being away from home at times, I cherish the connections I’ve maintained with my family back in Guyana. The lively marketplaces and the spirit of camaraderie remind me of my roots.
