Hello! My name is Mohamed Khatun, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the lush landscapes of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I enjoy the vibrant community life here, surrounded by the beautiful rivers that Guyana is known for. As a guard, I take pride in ensuring the safety of my neighborhood while also keeping a watchful eye on the rich traditions that define our culture.
Growing up in this region, I have a deep appreciation for our local cuisine. From savoring dishes like cook-up rice and pepperpot to enjoying a hearty serving of fried plantains — or as we fondly refer to it, balangae — food is at the heart of our gatherings. I cherish the moments spent with family and friends, sharing stories and laughter over a meal, often accompanied by a cool drink of mauby while enjoying the sounds of soca and reggae that fill the air.
Whether it’s a quiet evening watching the sunset over the Essequibo River or sharing a laugh with neighbors, I value the connections we build in our close-knit community. Those of us in the diaspora often reminisce about home, and while many of us have ventured far, the spirit of Guyana remains alive in our hearts. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
