Greetings! My name is Mohamed Jamaludeen, and I proudly call Demerara my home. Nestled beside the serene Long Pond, this region is a vibrant mix of lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Like many Guyanese, I cherish the blend of influences that shape our identity—whether it’s the sweet aroma of roti and curry wafting through the air or the rhythmic sounds of samba at local festivals. These elements remind me of our deep-rooted connections to both South America and the Caribbean, reflecting our unique position in the world.

As a resident of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, I often find myself engaged in conversations about our nation’s potential, especially with the recent developments in the oil industry. Yet, my heart remains with the small communities along the Upper Pom River and beyond, where the simplicity of life and the warmth of our people shine brightest. I believe in the importance of sharing our stories, just like my neighbors do when they gather for a meal, be it a sumptuous feast or a simple plate of pepperpot, where every lick of the plate tells a story.
