Greetings! My name is Mohamed Jaitoon, and I am a proud painter hailing from the vibrant West Coast Demerara, specifically from the 65 North Housing area. My roots run deep in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara, where the lush landscapes and rich culture inspire my creative work. Growing up alongside the Pomeroon River, I developed an appreciation for the natural beauty that Guyana has to offer, from the serene waters to the colorful markets filled with fresh fruits like cassava and plantains, and local dishes such as pepperpot and cook-up rice.
As a member of the diaspora, currently residing in Canada, I carry my heritage with me. I often reminisce about the sounds of the local communities, like those around River Mission and Upper Pomeroon, and the warmth of the people who call these places home. My work as a painter aims to capture not just the beauty of our landscapes, like the majestic Macorico River, but also the spirit of our people and their stories. Each stroke reflects my love for the rich culture that unites us, whether we are in Guyana or abroad.
