Hello! My name is Mohamed Rafeek, and Iām proud to call the beautiful East Bank Essequibo my home. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, this vibrant region is where the lush greenery meets the mighty Essequibo River. Growing up here has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage, from the mouthwatering flavors of pepperpot and cook-up rice to the rhythmic beats of calypso and chutney music that fill our streets during celebrations.
While I cherish the warmth and community spirit of Guyana, I often reflect on the challenges faced by our nation. Many of us in the diaspora share the bittersweet experience of viewing our home from afar. As we celebrate our resilience, we also hope for improvements in hospitality and education that would uplift our communities and restore the pride we hold for our homeland.
