Greetings! My name is Mohamed Azaad, and I proudly call Essequibo my home. Nestled along the scenic Public Road of Zeelugt in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I am deeply rooted in the vibrant culture and traditions that make Guyana unique. From enjoying a hearty plate of pepperpot on special occasions to celebrating Phagwah and Diwali, my life is enriched by the diverse influences of our people—truly a reflection of our “little India” charm. I relish the moments spent with family and friends, sharing stories over a cup of ginger beer while savoring our local delicacies.
Living in Essequibo, I have the privilege of being close to some of the most breathtaking landscapes Guyana has to offer, including the majestic Kaieteur Falls and the lush greenery of our interior regions. I often find myself laughing at how outsiders attempt to pronounce our river and region names—it's a running joke among us! Engaging with the diaspora community is also important to me, as it fosters connections that span across borders while celebrating our rich heritage. It's heartening to see how we all come together, no matter where we are, to share the love for our homeland.
As I navigate my journey, I remain dedicated to preserving and promoting our culture, whether through storytelling or participating in community events. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
