Hello! My name is Mohammed Saffar, and I’m proud to call the vibrant Essequibo Coast home. Nestled along the beautiful Pomeroon River, I spend my days as a dedicated labourer, contributing to the rich agricultural tapestry that feeds our communities. Growing up in this lush region means I have a deep appreciation for the sounds of nature and the aroma of local delicacies like pepperpot and cook-up rice, which often accompany celebrations with family and friends.
Living in Guyana means being connected to a diverse cultural heritage, and I cherish how our various traditions come together, especially during events like Mashramani and Diwali. As someone who frequently speaks with family and friends in the diaspora, I know how important it is to keep our cultural roots alive, whether it’s through sharing stories of our beloved landmarks like the Manawarin Rock or chatting about the unique names of our rivers that sometimes give even the best of us a chuckle when mispronounced!
