Greetings! I’m Mohandai Persaud, a proud housewife living in the vibrant heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, specifically at 72 Dutch Quarter. My roots run deep in this beautiful land, where the lush greenery of the Pomeroon River and the warm smiles of my neighbors reflect the richness of our Guyanese culture. Growing up surrounded by the sounds of our diverse communities, I cherish the stories and traditions passed down through generations, from the savory meals shared during family gatherings to the colorful festivals that bring everyone together.
Food plays a significant role in my life, and I find joy in preparing traditional Guyanese dishes that have been cherished by my family. Whether it's the spicy aroma of pepperpot during Christmas or the sweetness of a fresh coconut tart, every meal is a celebration of our heritage. You can often find me experimenting with recipes or cooking up a storm for friends and family, embodying the spirit of hospitality that is so integral to our culture. Just like those enormous portions at The Hibiscus, I believe in serving love on a plate!
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I feel a strong connection to our wider community, whether it’s through sharing our experiences abroad or discussing the significance of Georgetown as a CARICOM hub. I take pride in being part of a diverse society, and I love connecting with others who share my passion for our homeland, whether they are East Indian, Afro-Guyanese, or from any other background.
