Hello! My name is Mohanie Singh, and I am proud to call Essequibo my home. Nestled in the heart of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I cherish the vibrant landscapes that surround my community, from the lush banks of the Pomeroon River to the tranquil beauty of Bamboo Landing. Growing up here has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich culture and traditions, which are reflected in our flavorful cuisine, such as pepperpot and metemgee, often shared during festive gatherings with family and friends.
As a resident of the 1105 New Housing Scheme, I enjoy being a part of a close-knit community that values togetherness and support. Whether it's welcoming visitors during the holiday season or engaging in spirited conversations about our beloved Guyana, I am always eager to share the warmth and hospitality that our country is known for. I often reminisce about the stories my grandparents shared about life in villages like Lower Pom River and Arapiako, which inspire me to stay connected to our heritage.
In addition to my deep roots in Essequibo, I keep an eye on the growing diaspora, especially with exciting developments like Air Transat’s direct flights from Toronto to Guyana. It’s an encouraging sign of our evolving connections, as we continue to celebrate our cultural identity, no matter where we are in the world.
