Hello! I am Mohini Coonjah, a proud housewife residing on the vibrant Coast G West Public Road in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. My heart beats to the rhythm of this lush land, where the Pomeroon River flows and the aroma of cook-up rice and pepperpot fills the air. Growing up in Guyana has deeply rooted me in the warmth of our local traditions, from the vibrant celebrations of Diwali to the joyous festivities of Mashramani. I cherish the connections I have with my neighbors and family, as we share stories and meals that remind us of our Guyanese heritage.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the bittersweet pull of living away from home, as many of my friends and family have ventured abroad, like my friend Yvonne from Karawab. We often reminisce about the unique pronunciations of our rivers and towns, and how outsiders sometimes struggle to get them right! Yet, despite the distance, our love for the land and our commitment to honoring our diverse communities remain strong. I pay respect to the various ethnic groups, including our Indian brothers and sisters, who contribute to our rich culture.
Through my journey, I've come to appreciate the beauty of our nation and the importance of staying connected with our roots. Whether it's sharing a laugh over an old video or discussing gun rights back home, I believe that engaging with our culture, both here and abroad, keeps the spirit of Guyana alive.
