Hello! My name is Monalissa Benn, and I proudly call Pomeroon River Grant in Marlborough my home. As a dedicated housewife, I cherish the warmth of family and community, often nurturing both with delicious home-cooked meals that reflect the vibrant flavors of Guyanese cuisine. Whether it's a hearty bowl of pepperpot on special occasions or the sweet aroma of cook-up rice filling the air, I take pride in sharing our culinary heritage with loved ones and neighbors alike.
Living in Guyana, I am constantly reminded of our country's breathtaking beauty, from the lush rainforests to the stunning Essequibo River. However, like many Guyanese, I feel a deep concern for the challenges our nation faces today. As we strive for a better future, I believe in the importance of taking care of our environment and fostering a supportive community. It pains me to witness the struggles some of our people endure, and I am hopeful that we can advocate for positive change together.
Being part of the diaspora has allowed me to connect with fellow Guyanese around the world, sharing stories and experiences that keep our culture alive. I often reminisce about our vibrant festivals, like Mashramani, that bring us all together in celebration. Yet, I also recognize the need for dialogue about the issues we face, such as the importance of mental health support and environmental responsibility. Together, we can create a brighter future for our beloved Guyana.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
