Hello! I’m Muriel Christian, a dedicated teacher rooted in the vibrant community of Mashabo, Essequibo Kaibari Mashabo, nestled along the beautiful Pomeroon River. Growing up near landmarks like La Bonne Mère and River Kamadankuro, I have always cherished the rich culture and natural beauty that Guyana offers. From the lush greenery to the serenity of our rivers, every aspect of my surroundings influences my teaching and connects me to my heritage.
In my classroom, I strive to instill a love for learning in my students, using our unique Guyanese culture as a foundation. I often incorporate local stories and traditions, encouraging my students to take pride in our heritage—whether it’s sharing the delicious pomeroon pepperpot or exploring the history of Albouystown, which has shaped many families, including my own. I believe that understanding our roots empowers us to reach for the stars.
As a part of the Guyanese diaspora, I am passionate about maintaining connections with our communities abroad. I love hearing stories from fellow Guyanese, whether they reminisce about their childhood in places like Portion Manawarin or share their experiences visiting home. Together, we celebrate our culture and strive to uplift each other, no matter where we are in the world.
