Greetings! My name is Naithram Toolsieram, and I proudly call Parika Backdam in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a dedicated farmer, I work tirelessly on my land, nurturing crops that reflect the rich agricultural heritage of our nation. From vibrant cassava to flavorful peppers, I strive to cultivate not just food, but also the essence of our Guyanese identity.
Like many of my fellow Guyanese, I find joy in our culinary traditions. Whether it’s the aroma of pepperpot simmering on a Sunday, or the sweet delight of a freshly baked coconut tart, nothing brings me closer to home than our local dishes. As I continue to build my life here, I often reminisce about the vibrant flavors and warmth of my community, often echoed in the voices of those in the diaspora who share their longing for our unique foods and culture.
Though I work hard on the farm, I also cherish the bonds we create along the way, whether it’s through shared stories with neighbors or the laughter of children in our village. I believe in the strength of our community and the connections we maintain, regardless of where we may roam. Together, we celebrate the resilience and spirit of Guyana, and I look forward to sharing more of my journey with you.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
