Hello! My name is An Seerajee, and I proudly call the lush landscapes of Essequibo, particularly Salem on the East Bank of Pomeroon-Supenaam, my home. As a farmer, I cultivate not just crops but a deep love for the rich traditions and vibrant culture that define our Guyanese way of life. Whether it’s the enchanting sight of our lakes resembling Coca-Cola due to the cypress trees or the mystical presence of anacondas in our rivers, every day spent here is a reminder of the beauty and uniqueness of our environment.
Food is a significant part of our culture, and I take immense pride in sharing our local delicacies with others. From a hearty bowl of pepper pot paired with puri to the joy of sharing stories over a meal, it’s these flavors that connect us to our roots and each other, both in Guyana and abroad. Living in a country steeped in history, I often reflect on our journey and the importance of preserving our heritage, as well as the need for more accurate narratives about our past.
