Greetings! My name is Andrew, and I proudly call Bank Essequibo, located in the lush Pomeroon-Supenaam region, my home. As a dedicated farmer, I cultivate the rich soil that has nourished generations of my family and community. Growing up surrounded by the vibrant culture of Guyana, I’ve always been inspired by our diverse heritage—from the flavors of our beloved pepperpot to the warmth of our people, especially in places like the Arizona Settlement and Kabakaburi.
Living here, I’ve witnessed the beauty of our landscapes, from the serene Essequibo River to the majestic Mount Roraima. These natural wonders remind me of the strong connection we share with our land and the pride we take in our local traditions. Although many of my friends and family have ventured abroad, often missing the taste of cassareep and the hustle of our local markets, I cherish the opportunity to engage with the diaspora community and share our experiences—whether through reminiscing about the odd personalities we’ve met or discussing the challenges faced back home.
As I continue to work the land, I remain committed to preserving the essence of Guyanese culture while fostering connections with those who have spread across the globe. I hope to inspire others to appreciate the richness of our country, and perhaps one day, they’ll find their way back to the beauty of Guyana, where our stories and flavors await.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
